This website, run by the International nanoSPD Steering Committee, serves the international community working on ultrafine-grained (UFG) and nanostructured materials processed by Severe Plastic Deformation (SPD), an approach that provides for strong grain refinement through plastically deforming materials to a very large strain under high pressures.
For
new trends in this area and
formal definitions of UFG and SPD, see a paper published in JOM, 58 (4) 33, (2006).
If there are questions concerning the meaning of these definitions, please direct your questions to Prof. Yuntian Zhu at ytzhu@ncsu.ed
